Meet ❤Khushi❤ our newest HEALer and a recipient of  The Joey & Oreo HEAL Fund. She came in today to visit one of our volunteers at her office! KHUSHI, which means joy or happiness in Hindi, has had anything but a happy life. This ADORABLE SENIOR, was found ~5 years ago in a parking lot with ribs showing. ? A man, who works in maintenance at our volunteer's office, found her and took her home. We think he tried to breed her but thankfully couldn’t!!! This man then split up with the woman he was living with and she kept Khushi and pretty much neglected her. As you can see Khushi got heavy because she probably was never walked. Anyways, fast forward four years, the woman calls the maintenance guy and says she is moving and cannot take Khushi. This made us so sick ? The Maintenance man can't take her because his wife won't let him (typical!). A co-worker, who has a big heart, took in Khushi to help her find a home. She cannot keep her long term as she lives in an apartment building that does not allow dogs. Our good Samaritan loves Khushi and was in tears last week because she noticed KHUSHI HAS A HARD BUMP around one of her nipples. She is afraid it's cancer and cannot afford treatment. THIS IS WHERE WE STEPPED IN TO COVER KHUSHI'S MEDICAL TREATMENT. She had a preliminary visit to the vet and is now waiting for a surgical appointment at Tuft's. We're hoping #SweetieAtHEAL's good luck will rub off on Khushi and she will soon by HEALed!!? Please keep Khushi in your thoughts and prayers!!! We will keep you posted on her health. The Joey & Oreo HEAL Fund has donated a large number of Seresto collars to Gordy and Friends. This AMAZING ALL-VOLUNTEER group in the Finger Lakes region epitomizes the very best of an animal welfare and advocacy group. Their goal is to bring comfort and succor to outside and chained dogs. WITH THE WEATHER WARMING UP, THERE IS HUGE NEED FOR FLEA/TICK PREVENTIVE COLLARS for these poor chained and outside dogs. From Gordy and Friends, “The fleas here last year were so bad that we had people reaching out to us all summer. We had people come up to our truck when we stopped for gas, as they couldn't afford the collars but their dogs were suffering. It's a great outreach tool to find more dogs who need help beyond the collar. We passed out as many as we had - so this will be a great help to so many dogs.” THERE IS NO “I” IN RESCUE. We can achieve so much by working together. We want to thank all our supporters and donors, for giving a chance at life to Sweetie. There was no hope for her without you. A SENIOR DOG IN A HIGH-KILL MUNICIPAL POUND WITH A HUGE TUMOR ON HER NECK. We're so happy to report that Sweetie is recovering nicely. She finally ate a full meal today with her meds to the relief of her worried foster mom. Sweetie has a big incision and is probably in a lot of pain, but we can only imagine how relieved she must be to be rid of that 2+lb tumor hanging around her neck. We're still waiting for the biopsy report, so please continue to keep this sweet girl in your thoughts and prayers. Sweetie was rescued from the Waterbury pound on April 13 and is in a foster home. True to her name. she is the sweetest pup ever, despite the discomfort the big tumor on her neck must be causing her. She will soon feel as good as new after her surgery. Sweetie is about 5-6 years old and IS KID AND DOG FRIENDLY. She was found as a stray sitting and watching some kids play soccer in a park. SHE IS EXTREMELY WELL-BEHAVED, HOUSEBROKEN AND WALKS BEAUTIFULLY ON THE LEASH. We believe she was definitely a family dog before being abandoned....

Tom and Jerry are at Training Camp Thanks to "The Joey & Oreo HEAL Fund" Tom and Jerry are out of the Yonkers Animal Shelter, NY and are at a wonderful doggie training camp. We were so happy to help this awesome twosome via a grant from The Joey & Oreo HEAL Fund, our give-back to the community funding initiative. TOM and Jerry were found as strays tied up in a park in Yonkers NY and taken to the Yonkers Animal shelter. Favorites of many, these pups were not handling life behind bars. They were displaying an amount of kennel stress, lack of confidence and anxiety. Tom and Jerry are a bonded pair between 3-6 years old. We are not sure if they are brothers or father and son but what we do know is they need each other. In training they will learn how to live successfully in a home environment. Adopting them into a home without training would have set them up for failure and we love them to much too do that. Tom and Jerry are sweet, good with other dogs and cats, and we believe they will thrive and shine in training. Training will provide much needed boundaries and rules and teach them to trust again. With the help of The Joey & Oreo HEAL Fund they were been given a second chance....

Camille (formerly Stiletto at Brooklyn ACC #A1104697), a geriatric 8-10 year old was found as a stray, abandoned by her family. The Joey & Oreo HEAL Fund covered Camille’s veterinary expenses, which helped her being pulled by a rescue. She wasn’t in the best of shape when she came into the shelter. Camille was far too underweight for her frame, had cuts, scrapes, scabs and callouses all over her body and her face wore the many years of neglect that she’s endured. Her vision was limited due to conjunctivitis. A wonderful foster stepped up to give Camille a home for life....

Sweet, shy Champagne (Brooklyn ACC #A1101751), a 15-year old pit bull mix was surrendered to the shelter by her owner who had her for the last 10 years when she started having accidents at home. Champagne was on the “at risk” list due to kennel cough. She escaped death due the The Joey and Oreo Fund, which sponsored her stay at a farm in upstate NY, where she continues to live. She is such a gorgeous, low maintenance girl and is finally living the “vintage” life she so deserves....

Zorro (formerly Gladiator at Brooklyn ACC #A1109546), a 14-year old sweetheart was surrendered by his owner due to incontinence. Zorro is now safe at home with his new mom who adores him. The Joey and Oreo HEAL Fund helped pay for veterinary expenses and sadly Zorro was detected with bladder cancer, which is not treatable. The good news is it's not slowing him down any. He's eating very well, and is quite energetic for a 14-year old. His mom has promised that “he will be loved and spoiled for the rest of his days, may there be many.”...

Boomer, a 17 year old pit mix, was surrendered to the Manhattan ACC due to his owner’s ill-health. Poor Boomer, who was given to the owner as a gift from a family member at 2 weeks old, found himself alone and scared at the shelter. He was at risk due to his medical condition. The Joey & Oreo Fund stepped up to give Boomer love and dignity in his golden years by sponsoring his stay at a farm in upstate NY, enabling him to be pulled by a rescue....

The Joey and Oreo HEAL Fund helped with Rhea’s (previously Valentina rescued from AHS-Newark Branch) transporting and fostering. This gorgeous girl was found tied to a bench in Newark on a freezing Valentine’s Day, the day of love, with horrific injuries. She spent a month in medical at the AHS Newark. Valentina was an awesome collaborative rescue effort, with a rescue pulling her, Humane Society of Westchester at New Rochelle dog and cat testing her and Village Animal Hospital in Larchmont taking care of her severely injured ear and overall well-being. Her dad is absolutely in love with his new girl Valentina now renamed Rhea (Ray-a), after the Greek goddess....

Our hearts broke for Blizzard and the cruelty of some humans. “Blizzard”, so named, because this dear 14+ year old, emaciated yorkie-mix was found tied outside in the icy blizzard of 2017.  The wonderful and compassionate Dr. Loretta Gallo and her awesome staff at the Village Animal Hospital tended to Blizzard. Joey’s Fund covered his vetting. Bizzard was warm, safe and loved at his amazing foster for three days before collapsing from internal injuries caused by years of neglect. Run free sweet boy, we are sad that we were not able to help you sooner, but thankful to your wonderful foster mom, so you could live the last three days of your life warm and loved....

Max (Manhattan ACC #A1098768), a four-year-old pit bull terrier mix was give up by his owner because of family allergies. This sweet, shy boy was put on the “at-risk” list as he contracted kennel cough in the shelter. A New Hope rescue stepped up and found him a wonderful family with two and other four-legged siblings. The Joey and Oreo Fund helped Max’s forever family with the adoption expenses. Max, the cuddle bug, brightens his family’s life every day....

Zaya was adopted by her family almost 4 years ago from the Yonkers Animal Shelter. She was detected with a "Mast cell tumor." Her family needed help with veterinary bills and reached out to our friends at the Yonkers Animal Shelter. Joey’s Fund contributed towards Zaya’s medical expenses. We’re happy to report that Zaya is now home with her family and recovering from her treatment. We wish Zaya and her family a lot of time together to make more happy memories....
